Claire Leishman – Profile
Qualifications
BA
Education
Basic Youth Work (Achieved 2001)
Experience
Claire has worked with children and young people in a
number of settings since the age of 15, as well as being
a regular babysitter for family and friends for as long
as she can remember! In 2001 she completed a course on
basic youth work and worked in various youth clubs with
children aged 8-12. In 2003 she worked briefly as a
volunteer tutor for children with learning difficulties
before deciding that education was her calling and
embarking on a Primary Education degree course after
completing one year of a Psychology degree course, which
she feels helped her to understand development that
little bit more.
During her spell at university Claire learned a wide
range of valuable skills and knowledge about learning
and teaching and as part of her course worked in a
number of primary schools teaching children between the
ages of four and eleven. Part of the course also focused
on nursery education and another on early development.
This highly interested her and she decided that instead
of teaching she would follow a career path in early
development, as she feels that the first year of a
child’s life is the most important and wanted to pursue
a career in helping parents to make the most of this
time.
Claire has also gained a variety of transferable skills
through her involvement in various other activities,
including the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Scottish
Youth Parliament. She has excellent communication and
interpersonal skills and is not afraid of a challenge!
She is very much looking forward to bringing these
skills to the Baby Sensory experience and sharing her
love of babies’ learning and early development with
parents.
